Dubai to open world’s largest single cut and bend rebar plant

Dubai is set to commission the world’s largest single cut and bend facility for steel rebars costing Dhs350m at Techno Park in Jebel Ali this month, Khaleej Times has reported. The 1.2 million square feet plant, a development by G2 International, a member of Geap International Group, has been under construction since January 2008 and will produce a monthly 60,000 metric tons of rebars cut and bend of international standard.

Dubai selected to host 2013 swimming world championships

Dubai was selected to host the 2013 swimming world championships on Saturday. The United Arab Emirates city beat Moscow and Hamburg, Germany.

The announcement was made by FINA president Mustapha Larfaoui on the second day of the current worlds in Rome. Larfaoui said it was still to be determined which period of the year the Dubai championships will be held. They are expected to be held indoors.

Shanghai will host the next worlds in 2011.

$272m Dubai children’s hospital underway

Construction of a new AED1bn ($272m) specialist children’s hospital in Dubai is underway, the official news agency WAM reported.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai laid the foundation stone of the Jalilah Specialised Paediatric Hospital on Sunday.
The 200-bed specialist centre is located in the grounds of the Al Wasl Hospital and is set for completion in 2010.
