Dubai bourse ends almost flat on selling pressure

February 6th, 2009

The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) closed almost flat at the end of yesterday’s trading after the index failed to maintain the bounce that started at the beginning of the session.

By the end of the day’s trading it had lost most of its gains from the opening bounce, which was expected after three sessions of continuous decline earlier in the week.

The DFM index gained 3.72 points, or 0.26 per cent, to close at 1,458.05 yesterday. However, it fell short of analysts’ expectations, despite the turnover more than doubling compared to the previous session.

The turnover surged considerably as 260.5 million shares changed hands at a total value of Dh259.3 million. Arabtec’s stock dominated around 45 per cent of the turnover and 25 per cent of the total number of deals.

Plan For Busch Theme Parks In Dubai Delayed A Year

February 5th, 2009

Plans for Busch Entertainment Corp. to build four theme parks in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the economy has suffered from a decline in oil prices and real estate values, have been delayed for 12 months, corporate officials said this morning.

Busch Entertainment and Dubai developer Nakheel PJSC intend to announce a new completion target date, Busch Entertainment spokesman Fred Jacobs said in an e-mail from the company’s Orlando headquarters.

“The project is being delayed by 12 months, but both BEC and Nakheel remain committed to it,” Jacobs said.

A new SeaWorld and Aquatica were scheduled to open in Dubai in December 2012 and a Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove were to open in 2015. The parks were planned to be built on 300 acres on an artificial island shaped like Busch’s signature killer whale image.
