Dubai Holding will not sell Jumeirah Group

Dubai Holding, owned by the ruler of the Gulf emirate, will not sell or list its luxury hotelier Jumeirah Group to pay off debt maturing next year, Jumeirah Group’s chairman was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Al Bayan newspaper carried the remarks which Gerald Lawless made in an interview with Forbes magazine, published on Friday.

“Jumeirah and Dubai Holding are part of each other and Jumeirah is not going anywhere,” Lawless told the magazine. “Dubai Holding will be fine.”

World’s tallest hotel to open in Dubai

The world’s tallest hotel, the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana, is scheduled to open in Dubai by mid-December, UAE daily Emirates Business reported on Monday.

Rotana said it expects occupancy levels at the 481-room hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road of no less than 80 percent, the newspaper reported.

The hotelier’s expectations are a far cry from current hotel occupancy levels in the UAE, which have been hit by the global recession as fewer tourists visiting to the Gulf tourism hub.

Dubai to open world’s largest single cut and bend rebar plant

Dubai is set to commission the world’s largest single cut and bend facility for steel rebars costing Dhs350m at Techno Park in Jebel Ali this month, Khaleej Times has reported. The 1.2 million square feet plant, a development by G2 International, a member of Geap International Group, has been under construction since January 2008 and will produce a monthly 60,000 metric tons of rebars cut and bend of international standard.
